RECOGNIZING THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF MT. ZION CHURCH OF ONTARIO

______

HON. NORMA J. TORRES

of california

in the house of representatives

Friday, July 29, 2022

Mrs. TORRES of California. Madam Speaker, I rise today to recognize the 100th anniversary of Mt. Zion Church--a pillar of the Ontario community and the Inland Empire region.

Since Mt. Zion's founding in 1922, the church has stood resolute to its values by advocating for civil rights and supporting the growth of Ontario and the community. Over the past century, Mt. Zion has witnessed events like the Great Depression, the desegregation of the Ontario Police and Fire Departments, and much more. Through it all, the church has been a source of peace and security to our community. Mt. Zion continues to pour into the people of the Inland Empire with their food assistance, preschool, and their English as a Second language programs. Now more than ever, their compassion is needed as our nation faces unique challenges.

Under Pastor Kennedy's leadership, Mt. Zion has kept our community together and provided critical services during a pandemic that has rippled through our lives. Mt. Zion is a source of comfort for many families who have experienced loss during the pandemic and reminds me of what it looks like to support the working families in the Inland Empire.

Partners in the Inland Empire community like Mt. Zion, Senior Pastor Dr. Brian E. Kennedy and his wife Lady Hilda Kennedy are invaluable as we try to fix the issues facing Ontario and our region. I will continue working with the Mt. Zion community to bring further opportunities and support to our home and neighbors.

For the remarkable and incalculable contributions to our community, it is my honor to recognize the 100th anniversary of Mt. Zion Church of Ontario. The church's decades of service and support to the people of the Inland Empire is worthy of the highest commendation.
